I haven't read the dark paladin, I agree with you regarding Fayroll however, the jump to English takes away from the book BUT it's clear the author worked very hard to make it presentable. I have the kindle edition and it's the only one I have that comes with actual footnotes, as in click the number and a footnote appears at the bottom of the page NOT take you to the end of the book where all of them are crammed together and you have to find your way back to an unnumbered page!!!!

Page view is enabled so all you have to do after getting jumped to the appendix is click the middle of the page somewhere and there's a shortcut back to where you were.

Or you could click the hyperlinked numbers in the appendix to be taken back to where the footnote is in the main text.

On books without page view enabled, drop a bookmark by tapping the top right corner before checking footnotes, then you can navigate back from the bookmarks section of the drop down menu.

Super Galaxy Universe Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Vodka Na Zdrovya Russian, comrade! I think that's part of what made it interesting though - I love all the bits of different cultures that shine through in foreign books.

 

I'd watch that anime.

Alternate universe WW1 where the trench warfare is put on hold to fight off the invasion of the Martians ala H.G.Wells War of the Worlds, but with mecha. Unfortunately, Lenin was fried by a Martian heat beam, so it's Czarist Russia.

Yeah, I thought I saw something about books 6 and 7 both being in the process of being translated. But my memory's not what it used to be, heh.

 

I guess I'm a bit stricter: Dropped from a 4 to a 3 for me!

Felt very unsatisfying. Quite a few loose ends, rushed and also quite an anti-climax, imo.

 

There's still one book left for him to tie all of that up though.

 

After the last two books I'm not sure if I'm going to bother with the 7th.

I'd think that even if you didn't want to pick up the 7th book in a series, by that point you'd be so invested in it anyway that not seeing how the whole thing ends would bug you more than giving it up that close. It'd be like running 25 miles of a marathon and tapping out.
