    Weeelll, you're analogy isn't completely correct. I'm a reader first and foremost, who reads for the pleasure of reading. So, in your analogy I would be a runner who runs for the pleasure of running - not for the accomplishment of completing a marathon. Therefore, if I run 25 miles and then don't enjoy it anymore I see no reason to force myself to finish it. There are lots of other marathons I can run! ;)
