The original had some good ideas so I gave the sequel a chance, but the author's attempt at witty banter is so stilted and weirdly off. I've been pretty much skimming.
I can agree with that. I didn't like parts of it, but overall I did enjoy it. I like Cal and felt bad when [SPOiLERS]
Spoiler: End of Dungeon M Well, Dani gets kidnapped after Cal opens the dungeon to save the city from a plague he accidentally created with a spore infection that took out 1/6th of the kingdom. After the loss of the wisp, Cal begins a descent into madness and becomes hyper aggressive or is hinted to be at the end of the novel.
I really like the series so far, but I agree that listening to Vikas Adam's performance is a better experience than reading it. I wished that this book's... Spoiler beginning wasn't a time skip. And showed us Cal's insane episode.... but oh well.
I really like this series. The witty banter isn’t as witty as some I’ve read, sure, but the characters do all still at least have consistent and distinct personalities.
personally im of the opinion that a book should not be judged purely on the quality of there witty banter but by the content of there charaters
