Yeah, I was thinking about that today. Raw first-draft speed vs slower second-draft speed. I tend to maybe write slower and catch/fix as many mistakes as possible on the "first-draft"... I've topped out at around 15k in a 24 hour period once or twice before, but you do BURN OUT. So, now I try to do the slow and steady wins the race bit. It can sometimes be just as difficult getting a smaller amount out every single day then big extended bursts. We've all got our own methods. It's cool to be able to share.
Do you have a lot of success with the voice recorder angle? I've been pondering it for a while due to battles with a torn shoulder muscle and tendonitis.
That's absolutely the deal. The magic happens when you sort through the vomit and push the peas and carrots into place...
No updates in a while because I've been dealing with hurricane preparations and mass chaos. Will try to get back on it sometime this weekend.
Did not sleep last night, after sleeping eleven hours during the day. No idea if it is day or night but I have been dictating for a LONG time. There better be a lot of words on this damn machine at the end of today...
I had a doc appt first thing this morning, so haven't even started writing. Thing is, we have a tech coming out after lunch to do warranty repair on the fridge, so now I'm thinking about that. I might not get any writing or editing today. Distractions really distract me. speaking of...that typing gif above is crazy.
This is exactly me. Give me a cabin the words and leave me alone and I can smash the words out. Give me "all day" but tell me that sometime around 2pm a guy will be coming around to fix the dryer, and I am absolutely unable to find story headspace. I've got myself to a reliable ~5k words an hour of dictation. The better I outline, the easier it is, although the more choreography (fight scenes, etc.) the longer break I take between chapters, just so I can work out what should probably happen next... So, it takes 1.5 or 2 hours to get an hour of words recorded, sometimes.
Yesterday was a bust. Since I was too distracted by a morning and afternoon appt, I just watched TV all day. The doc appt was knocked out early, but then the fridge tech came at around 2pm if I remember right. Anyway, I usually stop writing around 2 or 3 every day (when I don't stop at noon, or earlier). I can prove I watched TV all day. Ask me anything about CNN coverage or Irma. I saw it all.
This was the first day all week I haven't had to deal with reactions to new meds (sleeping 18 hours a day, what???) or other shenanigans, and I managed to crank out about 3,500 words in prompts today after work.
My word counts will decrease until I finish this project (though I might need to add a few more chapters). What I'm working on is the first book of a 5 part series about Dorothy's return to Oz. Only it'll be a lot more adult and violent. After all, this times she's armed for bear and is OFF TO SLAY THE WIZARD. Each book needs to be around 50k, but the first book fell short by 20k. I noticed there was a big time/distance jump in the middle of the book. So I've expanded on that, and got my 20k. I'm rewriting the rest of the book this next week, and stamp it DONE. Then it'll be back to another LitRPG. I'll alternate between LitRPG and this series for the rest of the year. I plan to publish this series over a 2 month period in early 2018.
I just started a new first draft after a month of hardcore editing, so I'll be trying for at least 2000 words a day over the next few months.
