You are playing as a female (imagine). You get set a mission to beat another player in the opposite faction. You must do it alone and there is no chance, at all, of defeating him in a fight.

You tried to seduce him - but because he is under 18 the content filter blocked it out of his perception. You are now alone with him in his room?

    Suggestions?

I've considered ridiculing him until he bursts into tears and leaves the game forever, but I don't think that's realistic?
Or convincing him to change factions?
    Other options?

What are the terms of victory? How do you define 'beat another player'? Is getting him to change factions enough? Can you kill him? How far under 18 is he? As a teenager, he's probably coping with a bunch of insecurities and misplaced rage or angst. You could play off of those emotions. His response to mind games could be anything from rage to tears. He's probably unrealistically ambitious and idealistic. You could use those characteristics to play to his greed or self-interest.

    He's 14.
Getting him to change factions would work, but I'd rather have him rage-quit the game. Or any kind of quit. There's no perma-death.

Rage quitting... The best way to elicit that response is to harangue him about something that he's insecure about or some recent failure. It really depends on his personality, but I've met people who would rage quit over that kind of verbal attack.

Black mail him somehow, poison his character through non-combat means, convince his real life girlfriend that also plays that he has confessed his love for you in private and taunt her to chase her from the game to (hopefully) get him to chase after - with huge blowback potential, Loony Tunes his ass with a falling piano, invite him to a neutral place that is bugged and pull a Sims by somehow removing the pool ladder - trapping him, convince him you are a talented black smith and want to upgrade his one of a kind weapon - then steal it and taunt him publicly causing him to rage quit, have the seduction be so bad it isn't filtered because the super advanced game AI thinks the protagonists seduction efforts are the equivalent of the "Elaine Dance" - then have the young man be so disturbed by the innuendo / death threats that he makes massive mistakes in a duel, if the player loses nothing from the duel or assassination - offer a quid pro quo arrangement - if death is a very bad thing (in the game) offer him riches and favors the character never plans to keep, find a cross faction means of enticing the player to co-operate - item swaps and maybe even rare quest items that one faction has an easier time gaining than the other (like Shaman tremor totems in Vanilla WoW making Onyxia a cakewalk), reveal and share the main characters ace in the hole bugged out quest or grinding method in exchange for the kill, lead him on in a very blatant way and record only the parts of the conversation where he wants to (blank - using the two way anti-flirting mechanics) then convince the server population he is a filthy pervert that chases older ladies - teasing (with the aim of sexually frustrating the minor) rather than actually seducing.

Sims ladder idea is my favorite, dump him in a dark pit in a neutral zone, and keep tossing poison food meant for killing in-game gophers that count towards a players damage, then if he voluntarily ingests the poison the damage counts towards the protagonist's quest. Even if his friends can get to him, they won't be able to free him or kill the MC, and then if its an anti-magi zone or if teleportation isn't allowed in the particular spot (or teleportation for his faction specifically isn't) then he could only rely on a petition. Making him a hot-shit arrogant little bastard that runs to the GMs for abuse of the "trap" bug then opens up the possibility of the GM staff repeatedly placing him at the bottom of the que. Once he complains publicly then the GM staff with a bone to pick can confront him publicly and call him selfish / self absorbed and point towards his previous harassing / confrontational behavior and arrogance that led him to get trapped - while emphasizing that legitimate game breaking events are occurring for other players who need help right away in a game with simulated pain. The GMs then saying, "You aren't a priority", opening up the door to others with grievances who pile on in the public forum. The young man not knowing how to deal with the world turning on him flees the game after his unfair shaming based on unprofessional discrimination, and the moral of the story is that there is no moral of the story and the MC got what she wanted by being greedy / evil and getting lucky that the GMs hated the quest target too. Once he goes offline, or sells his gear causing someone to rush to meet his avatar and take the superior gear leaving him naked (to reroll and seek revenge or glory with a new name and a clean slate), he eats the poison or becomes susceptible to starvation, and his character dies.

That scenario only works if "Attacks" don't work in the area, and if the character avatar is persistent when offline.
