That's a tough one. How willing are you to keep up with it all? For book 1, go nuts. Assuming they're new in the world of your story, getting full updates is fine.

After however:
Main stats (str dex etc) / health mana and stamina you can have every time. It's not too much and it's a snapshot of their progress. It's a good update.

All the abilities and marks /skills /major events can be saved for end of book and beginning of book updates / as they come up in the story. (assuming these or something like them exist in your universe ).

Generally speaking, assume your reader is paying attention. You may have the urge to re-explain everything at times, but that can be relegated to a prologues/ indices, or some such. Let them go back and re-read if they weren't paying attention before.

Not to say that you shouldn't go into detail as things come up, but doing it more than once or twice is tedious for the reader, and going too far into detail will be harder on you, because it will tie down your creativity based on what you said previously.
