Well the issue lies with the timeline of these events.

When does the chaos bolt strike? Soon after James's disappearance or as was implied by Heman and others, have many years passed on earth?

How old is Remy and did he ever search for his nethew?

How long has Richter been gone?

Are people still being taken to the land after the chaos bolt strikes?

A number of years have passed I think.

Richter was apparently in a coma, no need to search for him. Unless your getting at something else on that.

They might be the leftover after people stopped being sent to the Land.

What is the deal with level 0 beings? Is Aleron going to reconn monsters and make Richter a level 0 that increases to level 1. I don't think it would matter much to the story.

I wondered about that too. Tier 0 of Telos looks a lot like tier 1 of the Land through, so maybe it's purely a technical change.

Tier 0 exists in the land as well, though we've mostly seen it with the crappiest of buildings. I wouldn't be surprised if Richter is at tier 1 in terms of evolution, the second tier.

I think that richter and those like him on earth are in a coma because their soul was taken. Thus their body is just a vegetable.

It was said they disappeared. If there was tens of millions of comatose gamers i'd like to think someone would have sounded an alarm a lot sooner as they'd be finding the bodies, often in front of computers at least early on.

Thereas if people simply disappear from their rooms and apartments, that is much more ambiguous. For instance, i'd probably think "alien abduction" a lot sooner than i'd think "dragged into magical world" in that case.

IIRC it was just a few at first not tens of millions in a coma all at once.

In the new series it literally says that ricther was in a coma that he never came out of and that there were many like him.,

We will need to see in the next book if chaos seeds are all a couple years behind richter or varied. If might make a difference if it was a few at first the all of a sudden a whole bunch (millions) go missing in the course of a few days.

This pushes straight to the edge of disbelief that there are tens of millions of bodies in comas. Where would they put them and who would take care of them? Or are they simply allowed to die?

If you don't find those shut-ins fast enough, ya they would die. Though it could be that only richter was the one to be put into a coma, not the others. I don't think that is the case though.

Do you think gods will gain portfolios like in DnD? An argument against it is the sheer number of gods, there's no way for every god to have a unique one.

Gods in DnD don't necesarily have a fully unique domain.

For example, in 5e Hanseath is the dwarven god of war.
Corellon fills the same role for elves.

and so on it goes. Gods fill a role within a pantheon, generally there won't be more than one god covering the exact same things, though there can be multiple gods covering different aspect of a domain. For example you might have a god of war with a focus on honor and another with a focus on winning by any means whatsoever.

In the land I think it will work much the same, except several races will likely share the same pantheon and align themself with the god closest to them aka the one they have the highest resonance with.

I would say that they allowed the bodies eventually to die and than disposed of them.

So their families were okay with that? Parents are okay with their ten year old gamer kids basically being abandoned to die?

Aleron really needs to rethink the ramifications here XD

That said, it doesn't really matter to the story, its just one of those things an author clearly threw in without thinking it through.

OK with it or not there'd be a tipping point. Especially without any visible improvement ever. If Richter was the first and didn't improve at all while hundreds of thousands more meet the same fate over years, people are gonna get twitchy with their plug pulling hands.

Once the apocolypse hit and the people are actively dying let alone the comatose? Sorry Timmy but you just dropped from the "priority list" to the "things I lost in the apocalypse" list
