Anime has long been a favourite of mine. Fantasy, Gaming, RPG, Sci-fi - all combined with kick-ass action and lots of humour, what's not to love?

Do you watch anime? Do you have any favourites? Are you looking for recommendations or do you want to share your excitement about a series? Post here!

Akira was my first foray into Anime. I have a poster of Steamboy because I love the look of determination on his face in it.

What would you recommend if I were to get back into it?

Follow-up question - what are your thoughts on the Live Action Ghost in the Shell movie?

I'm going to make a list of my favourites, I think, with short description. The anime world is so vast and varied it's easy to get lost. I think I'll add a link to my profile on myanimelist.net as well - that way it's easier to browse through the series and movies I've watched and see how I've rated them.

What do you prefer when you watch movies/TV series/read books? As I said, I prefer action and humour, so most of my favourite anime have a blend of the two.

As for Ghost in the Shell - honestly, I don't have a problem with it. I get a bit frustrated with people who immediately shout about discrimination and exploitation before they've even seen the movie. I understand there is a huge problem and I fully support people who fight for equality - but I also sometimes want to just sit down and watch a movie.

I hate going to theaters, so I will wait until I can watch it at home before I decide if I like it or not.

Cool. Look forward to your recommendations. I'm thinking we might eventually need a dedicated place for Anime here at LitRPG Forum.

Possibly - anime is HUGE! However, the anime fanbase in the West is still developing. Kind of like where comics and superheroes were a few years ago - everybody thought they were just for kids. I think there are still a few misconceptions floating around about anime: Either people think they are just cartoons for kids, or they confuse it with hentai and think it's tentacle porn :p

In order to be make discussing a particular anime series easier, I'm going to keep it to one anime per post, rather than just list a bunch of anime. To start with, I will post a few anime series that are not just my particular favourites, but are highly rated by the anime community and also fulfill the parameters of this forum: They all, in one way or another, are recognisable to fans of LitRPG.

There we go. Post away one-per thread. Good way to do it, I think.

First anime for me were Mermaid Scar and Kimagure Orange Road.

    Back in the day, yo!

My top anime choices would be Death Note, No Game No Life, Inuyasha <3, Ouran High School Host Club, Sword Art Online.

Currently watching and enjoying Food Wars :p

Death Note took my love of anime and understanding of the sort of intricate storytelling that was possible to a new level. It has also been the gateway anime for a few of my friends as well! They were surprised how quickly they were hooked by the story and different dilemmas all the characters faced.

The first few anime I watched as a kid were all on Toonami. Of course I was sucked into DBZ, but from there it was Tenchi Muyo, Inu Yasha, and onward to today. Always amazed how much the visual quality has evolved over the years!

I have a few Animes I've enjoyed, but dont often have time to get into new ones.
Death Note, Neon Genesis Evangeleon, Bleach, Rurouni Kenshin. Are some of my favorites.

Ok, so, I will admit to watching some anime.

Really tons of it. We have a Roku box and have canceled our cable subscription. We only have high-speed internet.

Bleach, One Piece, Cowboy Bebop, Toriko to name a few.

Let's start with a new one that I recommend. Magical Girl Rising Project, one I watched not too long over on Crunchyroll. Take the typical Magical Girl genre, then throw into the mix Battle Royale. If you don't like dark, then I wouldn't recommend it.

Also, I'll also give a thumbs up to the live action movie, Battle Royale. The hunger games, just not as nice, before the hunger games existed.
