I used to play online text only role playing games on the ROM codebase. Possibly the most addictive thing on the planet. Wondering how many of you are even old enough to know what I'm talking about, or if you did play what did you think of it? -Nyar
My battle notifications in Tower of Gates are an homage to MUDs of days gone by. I played way too much in college. I had the midnight to 8 am shift in a computer lab full of VAX terminals and very few students. Haha. After being hooked on text-only ones, I shied away from newer MMO's for the most part as I fell into corporate America. I've been toying with the idea of hosting a Tower of Gates MUD... maybe next year? I have a huge roguelike background too... https://litrpgreads.com/blog/history-roguelikes Old Timers, chime up! Haha.
I played Medievia for several years. I played a different one before that, but can't remember the name. I think Medievia is still running. At least, the website is still up: http://www.medievia.com/
Nice screenshot...man, I spent so many hours doing that stuff. So fun to role play with just text. Ahh...the memories! A lot of Easter eggs in my writing for people that played these.
I don't have anything published yet...thus the "aspiring" writer. I need to get someone to beta read for me and probably polish off the ending of my novel before I release it to the general public.
Hello, I'm a new member and looking for an inspiration to write my own version of web novels, which involved coding and designing web page rather than just posting novel texts in platforms like RRL or QI Inkstone. Recently I have an idea to improve reader experience in web litRPG, googled around for research and stumbling this forum. I also read something like MUD and other interactive fiction things that spark my interest but I don't really know them well since I'm not English native and things like that aren't popular in my country. If someone can tell me what is MUD really like and point links for me to start as a beginner it would great help for me. Thanks! PS: Forgive for my grammar if it's bad. I'm not English native speaker and I hope people in this wonderful forum can accept diversity amongst enthusiasts around the world.
MUD - Wikipedia MUD History, Who Invented MUD's, How MUD's Were Invented The Game Archaeologist plays with MUDs: The history -- Muds and IRC- The Heroin of the Internet? :: Multi-User Dungeons, sometimes Object Oriented, and Internet Relay Chat That should get you started? Welcome aboard.
Thanks. I've checked the link from the fifth post and already play it a little though I still confused. I'll read and explore this more, maybe I can get some big inspirations for my project from MUD.
Man, I wasted SO MANY HOURS on Avalon: The First Age, and Avalon: The Legend Lives. Also a couple thousand dollars, for that matter.
