    Greetings!

Doing a quick survey to identify who our members are. Readers or Writers.

It goes without saying that if you are a writer, you are also a reader. In this case, just select Writer if you have written, are writing, or plan to write a LitRPG in any format.

Haha yeah. It just made sense that if you wrote LitRPG that you also read it. I wanted to separate the two groups and see how many readers we have here.

Part of this is due to a suggestion to run a survey here. Though if the survey is only of writers, I feel it would be skewed. So, this is just the first step to plotting a survey/research effort in the genre.

    Sorry, just saw this now.
I identify as reader and clicked it before I read your post.
While not a writer, I dream of writing a LitRPG. Will it happen? Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You're welcome to edit your answer (I left that as an option when I made the poll). :) I guess you have to be the judge of Writer vs Reader. If you feel that writing a LitRPG is a reality and will happen, then I consider you in the Writer group. If it's a pipe dream, then Reader is fine.

My hypothesis is, writers are more likely to seek out a forum than just Facebook/Goodreads groups. We'll see. ;)

I'll personally add in I prefer forums. Facebook is too easy to lose threads, and Goodreads I almost never use groups. Except for @Felicity Weiss group of course.

Last I counted, I think we have around 40 in the LitRPG Author group with the other 140 as readers/aspiring writers.

I use that group in Goodreads as well, they are so down to earth there and kind...... I wonder if that is enough flattery to get me a purr as well?

The question is, where do most of the posts come from? Thus far, we have one Reader who has contributed to this poll despite the 1/3 ratio of Writers/Readers.

I went to the other forum... a forbidden land, I know. They have half the members we do and 1/10 the posts. 80% of those posts are on he-who-must-not-be-named book. I think we're doing pretty awesome.

But, if Readers are not contributing, why is that? Do they simply not care much for the discussions and would rather go read a book? And what can we do to help bring them into the fold?

Yes, I like forums too. The discussions are more in-depth and are sticky. Facebook, posts disappear all too fast, then you can only find them via the search if you know what to look for.

BTW, after seeing how the other forum was being ran, I wanted to post something though didn't know where to put it. Here is as good as anywhere.

@Paul Bellow, You have done a fantastic job. You are the heart of this community and we are lucky to have you. Keep up the good work. :)

Haha no lands are forbidden... ;)

I think the season (summer) has something to do with it too? That and people being busy? We seem to have a core group with several who pop in every now and then. I've done communities before, and they're not easy to get going. As I said, I got very lucky with the first few people who showed up here back in May. That said, I did do quite a bit to try to help keep the flames rising.

Good questions on keeping participation up. A lot of it has to do with fun factor maybe? That is, in the beginning I was a lot more responsive in taking wishes and turning them into reality (like the chat feature! haha), but lately, I've been in my writing cave. Happily surprised with how the site's kept up, though.

This is exactly how tyrants are born. Stop! ;)

Seriously, though, thanks. Noticing is appreciated.

However, as I've said all along, without you guys, I'd just be a crazy shirtless guy dancing by myself! Haha.

We just hit our three month birthday, which is pretty amazing when you stop and look at the amount of content we have so far. I just hope I continue doing a decent job of making it easy to find.

I've loved seeing the new people come in - their reactions, comments, etc. Nothing like those first few nights, though, way back in May...
