Call me a visionary, but I can see this working for authors. Especially those writing in GameLit and LitRPG, check it out. Feel free to leave questions or totally disagree with me, heck you can even call me nuts as well, lol. Read the entire article I wrote here.
Thanks man! Came up with the idea last night and couldn't sleep wanting to write about it. I've gotten good reception so far around the different communities. So my next book will be another expansion pack based on the second book of my book Scifi "Soft" gamelit.
Hey, I came up with that idea too (independently, I hope). Except I'm calling it 'DLC'. Subscribe to my season pass and get free DLC!
Funny enough, the second book I'm writing deals with when an expansion pack is added to the world and modifies the world's already set rules and structure. The natural born AI's have it integrated into their data to have always believed it and know it while the humans in the world have to pick it up as they go. It's a blast. Reading the article gave me some great ideas for Expansion Packs of my own though. I love the term for what I hope will become commonplace in LitRPG and GameLit.
That could work as well only that DLC has gotten a bad rap thanks to EA and Battlefront 2. I'm aiming for more of the old school games that actually used full separate stories to drive the extra expansion. But hey if you can sell your idea, go for it!
My newest book which comes out on Friday, but you can pre-order for cheaper is an "Expansion" of my first book of my gamelit/Scifi series. It will be kind of a side mission between books 1 and 2. It can be read as a standalone though. It's quite the fun read and hopefully you will have the time to check it out, in fact, it's on sale this week. I really love the idea of expansion packs as well, does it have flaws? Yes, but everything does, right? Glad I can inspire you my friend and I would like to check out your book as well.
