Howdy folks! I’ve stumbled upon the LitRPG (GameLit?) genre about a couple of months ago (and had an epiphanesque “Holy shit, is this a thing!?” moment, I confess), have been lurking around these fine forums for a few weeks and posting for a couple of days, so I guess it’s time to be mindful of manners and an introduction is in order. (Which is, I have to say, rather nice in an old-fashioned, I-remember-the-days-before-social-media-was-a-thing kind of way, when forums were the norm and a proper introduction was the first thing you’d usually post, instead of the modern approach in reddit or discord and such in which we just jump on a conversation and assume that, if folks wanna know about us, they’ll check our post history or profile or whatever =) I come to LitRPG from the “RPG” side of things: a long, long time ago I wrote a bunch of short stories for EVE-Online, most of them fanfic, a few of them canon. Closer in time, I wrote a ton of in-game quests and the official novel for “The Repopulation”, an MMORPG that you’ve never heard about, and I’ve written a bit for other games in different capacities. I knew “novels in an MMO setting” were very much a thing (and before that novels set in roleplay settings like AD&D or Warhammer or Shadowrun), and I have written one of those myself (for Repop), but as said above I only discovered the GameLit/LitRPG trend recently, and became very much intriguided. It’s an iron rule of game design that game mechanics always come before story (and countless of passionate projects have seen their passion sour into frustration for ignoring said rule), so finding out there was a genre which combined both but put story at the front was an eye-opener. And that’s the gist of me being around here now: very curious, quite intrigued, I’d like to know more!
Hi Herko Kerghans, nice to meet you. I hope you enjoy your time here on the forum. The people are pretty great, even if I do say so myself.
Glad to meet you, guys. Certainly have been enjoying myself and learning a ton around here, and folks being pretty great is indeed the main reason these forums caught my attention. =)
I ain't a whale, mate, I'm a grinder, and filthy casual to boot! Thanks for the warm welcome, and equally glad to be around.
Greetings filthy casual. What the HELL® is a grinding casual? Doesn't grinding cancel out the bloody casual? What, do you grind in candycrush? Hell® is a registered trademark of Damnation, llc. used with permission per minor lien on soul.
