3 Idiots (2009) 7/10. Great fun. I don't watch a lot of Bollywood movies but friends of mine recommended it and I enjoyed it. Lots of laughs, a couple of entertaining songs and some scenes with surprising depth.
Tomb Raider (2018) 5/10. Underwhelming, to put it mildly. Good cast, average director, poor script, flat characters.
Saw Deadpool 2 and was very pleased. Loved Domino. Colossus was great as always. A very interesting story actually (which kind of surprised me) and some good messages. So overall, loved it!
Husband and I watched Sausage Party last night and I spent the entire time laughing myself sick. It's not for everyone, but if you like juvenile humour and food orgies, you'd probably enjoy it. (Definitely a film for adults. I'm not kidding about the "food orgy" bit.)
I finally got to see Ready Player One a few days ago. I knew I was going to be disappointed. I didn't expect to be that disappointed. @Kidlike101 's post had already warned me, but I still can't believe they managed to ruin every key moments in the book. I thought the most vivid scenes from the book were those where the Oasis and the reality crashed head-on -- the scariness of it, like how "I know who you are" moments, or when Wade meets H irl, or when he learns of Daito's death, or when he musters courage to meet Artemis for the first time irl. Those moments. The whole 'loyalty centers' also makes no sense, and they just had to damsel the girl. Arrrghhh. I'm sad.
And the book went out of it's way to make her into an actual character NOT defined by her deformity or gender too. sigh... I really wanted to love that movie but was just disappointed with it as a whole. Some parts were visually nice though and I liked them using the overlook hotel instead of the Monty Python movie.
Just finishing watching Thor: Ragnarok again. It's on Netflix now. It's just an amusing as I remember so it was fun! I still love Korg.
Train to Busan (2016) 7/10. Man, Korea makes good movies. I'm not a big zombie fan so I was reluctant to watch Train to Busan, despite all the good things I heard about it. Turns out this movie was made for everyone who loves good movies, not just zombie fans. There's action, drama, comedy, a love story... A little bit of everything for everyone, blended together to make a damn fine movie. If you're a zombie fan you'll probably enjoy it even more than I did. Acts of Vengeance (2017) 6/10. Reminds me a bit of Bruce Willis's Death Wish remake. Both of them were decent action stars, both of them seem to cling to those days (in these movies, anyway). I didn't have high hopes so I wasn't too disappointed. A couple of nice gimmicks and kudos to Antonio Banderas for doing a lot of the hard work himself. Loved all the Marcus Aurelius references as well. But, in the end, it's just another generic, predictable B-grade action move.
Ready Player One (2018). 8/10. Loads of fun. Much better than I thought it would be after all the negative comments and feedback. Typical Spielberg adventure romp set in a game world with an 80s soundtrack. Pity they couldn't bring everything in the book to screen but nevertheless I enjoyed it.
Anon. I wanted it to be better. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great. Interesting concept - AR to the extreme...
Husband and I saw Deadpool 2 on Sunday. Excellent & hilarious. Do recommend (assuming you enjoyed the first one!).
I tried to watch Inheritance the other day, a story of some guy getting a $2.6MM haunted beach house from his biological father as a bequest. I had to stop because even though I'm a native English speaker I couldn't understand some of the dialog, and my wife definitely couldn't. (No subtitles.) Come on, millenials. Stop f**cking mumbling.
I finally checked a box in my long list of stuff I have to watch, and watched "John Wick". Man, what a fun let's-run-wild-with-clichés ride!!
And whatever you do, leave his fricken dog alone! Speaking of, just saw Hotel Artemis. If you like John Wick, its a fun movie to watch.
