Did he ask the Dad of Galactic LitRPG if he could borrow the keys for this trip? It'll be a hassle if he had to roll back the mileage...
I hope he's doing it because his book is actually a LitRPG, and not because the genre is "trendy." He's the kind of writer that can get away with it, simply because he consulted Bruce Schneier for the Solitaire Cipher. A lot of the reason I was drawn to GameLit/LitRPG was because it was something I naturally come to as a writer. And not because, "Hey, LitRPG seems to be selling like hot cakes." We see how well that went with the last "dystopian" craze. Mainly I don't want GameLit/LitRPG becoming genercised like Dystopian was, to mean literally anything.
Well, China is not giving up on dystopia and LitRPG, hence their credit rating system a.k.a. "get XP for being a good citizen"
