I'm also being inspired by this: But my take is pure Space Opera, not D&D. I wrote an 800 word first chapter last night without even trying. And killing the first adventurer was actually a lot easier than I expected. It will mean playing the game again, very differently, but that's not a bad thing either. I'm not sure if this will be GameLit or LitRPG, but it's my first attempt at whichever it is.
5489 words. 4 chapters. 2 adventurers down. It feels like I'm writing an anti-hero, which is something I've not been able to do before.
9695 Words. Made up for a few not functional days last night. 2 days of game story. Lost count of dead adventurers. But I'm thinking this is going to be at best a novelette. I don't feel right writing a cold blooded killer. But it is an interesting change of writing. Looks like this will be a prequel in my universe as well. And there is no reason why it might not spawn some followup stories.
11867 Words. And now complete. I could have let it go on for a lot longer, but it would have become boringly repetitive. Plus I found I don't like writing this kind of character in first person. So Novelette length. Editing begins today. It should add a bit, as I usually do. Something new for me. No idea if anyone will like it though.
12521 after editing. I'm thinking of a March 1 release. Waiting at the moment for some feedback on what Genre it actually is.
I'm reliably informed the book falls into GameLit, and falls a bit short of LitRPG by lacking enough leveling up stuff. Given the way I write, that's probably to be expected. Going on pre-order very soon.
Could always call it creamy LitRPG, but again, I'm probably the wrong person to ask! Haha. Good luck on the launch! Let us know.
Interesting. I think I'm seeing 2 things at the moment. 1. The KU effect, where the majority of LitRPG-GameLit readers use KU and don't buy. 2. LitRPG-GameLit readers want LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG, not very short. Be interesting to see the KU element on release day. Will 1 trump 2? Or will 2 make 1 irrelevant? Stay tuned.
Got here a little late. Cover looks litfps. Litfps can handle shorter books but as a sub sub genre sales are a little lacking. I had someone call 65k a short story on the crossover into litrpg so dont worry too much if you get that feedback. As an author I was wondering if you can articulate why you didn't like writing an evil character. If asked myself I know I'd be short of words so no worries if you can't, I'm just intrigued. A
It's not how I'm wired. I'm a spiritual person, so I can work with defending oneself, the need to wage a war to defend people, and all the issues that brings up. But I found a character who just kills on a whim to start with, and then justifies continuing it as self-defense, to be just too far from what I am. I'm a 'reluctant hero' writer.
Reasonable launch. Not my best by any means, but it is short in a genre which likes long, and priced the same as short novels. (I only do 99c now for something 8k or less.) #2 in one of the short reads categories, and holding there, which is good, and still a #1 New Release in a category. 1 orange tag is better than none. But I must admit to being disappointed with the KU reads. I know there is a problem with pre-orders in KU people not finding out in timely fashion the book is live, but I was expecting better. Still, experience for the future, and something worth trying.
