Sooo Here is something that has been running through my mind. Newton's first law of motion is often stated as. An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force Earths rotation is roughly 1000 miles a hour. Add to that the speed our planet moves around the sun. 66,600 mph. Now on top of that add in the speed our solar system is moving in the milky way, 514,000 mph. 1000 + 66600 + 514,000 = 581,600 miles per hour. (granted this number fluctuates based on the location of earth at any given time.) So next time a question comes up about how fast you or something is going. Make sure you add in the rotation of the earth, speed of earth rotating around the sun and the speed of our solar system going around our galaxy. If you really want to get anal about it you could also add in how fast our Galaxy is moving in the universe. "1.3 million miles per hour" total..= 1,881,600 MPH.. Granted.. All of these numbers are subject to current location of the earth (if it is moving forward or away from direction of travel etc.) But it makes you think. This rambling of thought brought to you by too much time to think. And maybe a bit too much or not enough meds.
