I don't know about the rest of you, but this weekend is a huge milestone for me as a gamer. My first serious game was Magic the Gathering during the Urza days. Up until the entire plane was nearly wiped out by the iconic wizard, I was enthralled with the story. Then, It grabbed me again in Kamigawa, Eventide, and a few sets here and there. I'm just excited to be back where it all started. Anyone else here as big a nerd about the series as myself?
I played back in the 1990s (?) wow... it's been around forever. I kinda wish I hadn't sold my cards. I did have a few videos of myself playing Magic Duels up a while back.
I used to play Magic down at the local comic shop and really enjoyed it but after a thousand expansions I kinda lost my enthusiasm trying to keep up. Still lots of fond memories with tons of different red and black decks of all sorts. Also played a lot of the Vampire the Masquerade card game back when it first came out. I loved stealth bleed decks and the Nosferatu and Malkavians were my jam. I also had a very quirky Brujah minion deck with all sorts of fast combat weenies.
That's what happened to me. My buddies are all sponsored players from a local shop and then there's me that durdles with Myr Tribal in modern and Edh shenanigans, but I'm a Vorthos through and through. I love the depth of the story that's coming, and it's just got me pumped. I also really hope there are references to the head of Urza.
At one point, playing green, I could get that mug out on turn 2 or 3 using the other card that let you lay as many lands as you wanted on a single turn. Fun times!
I haven't played in years. I was a major artifact player. But my deck was in German, which considering I lived in Germany at the time was probably a good thing
