I want them to release Steel Batallion on VR complete with the monstrous simulator-style control setup it had on the original Xbox. I’m holding out for a big budget mechwarrior style game, because damn I wanna pilot a giant robot!
Also at this point, the only thing Skyrim hasn’t been released on yet are those Netflix enabled toasters.
The only VR idea that would get me excited would be using either an SAO style helmet or, you need to have trodes implanted. Let's bypass most of the squishyware and get right down to cyberpunk implants.
We aren’t going to ever get there if VR goes the way of home 3D TVs. Sony, HTC, and Oculus can throw as many marketing dollars at VR as they want. But until developers stop half-adding it with their toe-in-the-water hedged bet policies, the tech isn’t going to take off. Extra Credits did a really good piece on why the PS Vita failed, and it still applies to VR headsets. Here:
I don’t think anyone is going to end up owning it, except maybe pornhub. Or possibly google. If worse comes to worst, maybe a medical device manufacturer like MedTronic or whoever does the remote surgery rigs will end up owning a huge interest in VR hardware since I can see some pretty major applications there, at least once it improves a bit.
