Johan had the idea several years ago to use a magic core with a tavern. It would make a magnificent facility as Taverns were the center of communities. Gaining the ability for unlimited rooms to rent, growing the kitchen, indoor eating area, growing the ability to brew and make wine would all be huge for the village. It could create a private meeting room and another room for gambling. Taverns were a huge center for commerce even after open markets were created. No doubt there would be multiple ways for growing and leveling a core tavern.

    Know this!
To level the core tavern it takes dedication to the craft.
-Brew 25 different smooth sensation or better beers with minimum of 5%alc/vol
-Distill masterful versions of all liquors types (0/20)
-Have 50 incidents of someone reaching Completely Jeffrey'ed within the tavern.

It would also be a good place for spy shenanigans or a base for Randy's Rogues

That's great point. Hopefully, "adventuring" isn't limited to the Dungeon or Labyrinth and some of the long running quests can be resolved quickly.

Why don't Richter's skill for Know thy self, and his mental resistance actively work against the "block" the Chaos Lords planted in him? Seems like the most obvious link in separate story lines to tie together

Richter doesn't have such a skill. Sion has an ability "Know Thyself." which he earned by going into a magical trial that forced him to go through the worst trauma of his life, the time poachers (humans like Richter that were hunting on sprite lands) fed his blood brother to a monster in cold blood. Dealing with that trauma earned him 10 wisdom and the ability.

As for mental resistance, it is just that. It might work against a new mental attack but it won't undo what has already been done. Just as fire resistance won't undo fire damage over time.

Its possible Richter can attack the block mentally, but it won't just happen passively.

It's an on going effect though, any time he thinks about home or the people or such it would be an active effect.

Fair. But you can't blame me for thinking it was the ability with the same name and purpose XD

Its a semi permanent mental blockade yhat ensures Richter won't think much about earth or his life there. It shields him against the worst effects of being marooned on a foreign planet with no hope of ever seing his friends, family and other loved ones again. Never getting to live the easy life, or the life he was preparing himself to live. The blockade could be passive as in the chaos lords have fooled Richter's mind into doing it to himself or it could be an ongoing magical effect as you imply.

In either case, a skill that increases your mental control won't help when you aren't actively working to get past the blockade and the block is actively hindering Richter from forming a strong desire to remember that could motivate such an effort. Plus Richter doesn't even know the block is there as I remember it.

Once he reaches a high enough level in the relevant skills its likely he will sense the foreign interference.

Plus, Richter could be considered a follower/faithful of the Lord's of Chaos, which would give them more control over him. There might be a whole set of manipulations of a god's believers varying on faith level.

That was for the the time he spent in the Chaos realm with "Pug" I thought, not his emotional attachments. The lich at least saw his past and wasn't deterred to look away, so I don't think we saw him going against this particular block

It was also mentioned that the Chaos Lords had placed a permanent(?) Mental and Emotional Dampener where his thoughts and emotions concerning his Earth Life are involved. I Also suspect that his thoughts, emotions, decision making, risk assessment and such in his everyday life has also been messed with by the Chaos Lords as well, which would help to explain a lot of his actions.

Richter's actual choice for next village specialization.

Depends on if he uses the same criteria of chosen specs as last time, as well as no new specs being available and obviously better than the last time

If the same specs and criteria are used: I'm thinking that he'll go warmonger, master Mage, fighter, or maybe alchemist. Easy to complete tasks capable of being done inside his domain and with a little attention, doable inside of a week. Also somewhat synergistic with his adventurer specialization. No real "limit" on initial leveling conditions, especially with quickening and adventurer spec involved. Highly beneficial to many parties in the village.

Otherwise, honorable mentions: Technocrat (the long con), Explorer, Hunter, Armorer, and Summoner.
Technocrat could have some of the largest implications given his limitless effect on village research, but it will be slow to level. Explorer and Hunter would be great for keeping his domain under control, but could run into soft caps when if /when they end up clearing the domain of all available locations/dens, until the village levels again/domain is expanded. Armorer is on this side since they don't have the duplication ability like the cauldron does. If the cauldron duplication ability doesn't affect the spec level requirements then I'd put it here with the honorable mentions instead. Both the Armorer and Alchemist specs could be highly beneficial in conjunction with the core buildings, but can be replicated through better tech/ schematics and formulae. Finally Summoner spec is guaranteed slow going with possible pit fall if certain numbers aren't met, but potentially just as powerful as the others due to force multiplication and power. 50% stronger and +50%duration of summoning for all summons is a big deal, if he gets any mages specialized in summoning, or with just a proclivity of Summon spells or just more necromancers that would be a big deal. Also couples well with his akaton evolution splll which also adds 50% to summon duration.

Other paths I feel are too reliant on villagers or other civs being amiable to be a reliable I feel like, especially given his location of bf nowhere. Mitigated due to adventure spec and dungeon travel, but still less ideal and even dangerous. Then things like benevolent ruler seem to add to the multipliers instead of the base which can be a tricky tower to stand on.

So, what do you think is his most likely next pick?

Edit: My money is on Master Mage. Warmonger is to... Mongery, and doubling down on magic affinity is in style for Richter I think. Level 2 should be easy with meidon and those who benefited from quickening planting. Level probably isn't out of the question either inside 1-2 weeks of dedication.

Edit: a little surprised at no "crafting spec" but it could be a little to unspecific I guess

Huh I guess we no longer have a specialization thread except on the other thread.

    ALL THESE - Village Speciaizations!

    All These Village Specializations!

Well you think he will choice it after he gets back? I'm gonna say none of those options because a tier 2 requirement specialization will open for him!
    ::DANCE::

If only he got the specialization earlier, he could have used love. He has increased his pop by 50%+ a few times. I like hunter a lot as it will keep giving him lairs, if he milks it... If they survive the current beasts. I also like master mage for the synergy with adventurer.
