Ok so it's a movie not a TV show but I feel like sharing Finally went to see Black Panther. Honestly.... It's a good movie, it's not a great movie which is what all that noise about it lead me to believe . But it was good movie. Solid acting out off everyone. Black Valkyries which were AWESOME and I totally didn't see coming. Mostly however it's the world building that steals the show. I didn't know or care about Wakanda. The made up city where Black Panther is from but I came out of this movie admiring the effort put into creating it. From cultural background to current political climate it's all taken into account in a visual and highly stylized way. Although beautiful the effects sometimes let it down... in a jarring way but I was invested so that wasn't a big thing. The plot however was flimsy at best. You could cut out close to one third of the scenes and it wouldn't matter. The main villain's motivation were solid but his actions and plan didn't seem to make line up. Way too many redundancies and none-sense scenes with him. Ultimately this was black panther origins movie and it ended up a "welcome to Wakanda" one with very little black panther actually showing in it. Still I liked it and think it was an entertaining stand alone film. 7/10 from me.
I heard it was similar to the comics just adjusted to avoid any PC / racial undertones. In the original the Mountain tribe had a weird name (forgot it) were the only white characters, dressed and acted like gorillas with their cheiften wearing white gorilla fur and a head as a helmet. It's understandable why that part was changed.
I finished most of the first season, and I'll probably go back, but it was during a move and I just never got back into it. I'm sure I'll use a free weekend to tear through it sometime. Other than that, I've been on a bit of a comedy kick. I buzzed through I'm Sorry by Andrea Savage yesterday, and I'm mostly through Recovery of an MMO Junkie. Both of them are alright. I'm Sorry is basically shock humor and awkward situations, but it didn't take too long for me to get into it and enjoy it. Net-juu no Susume took me about two and a half episodes to start caring, but that's typical with the slice of life stuff I watch. On the plus side, my wife is actually enjoying it with me, which isn't very common when it comes to anime.
I finally watched the last episode of Discovery and now I have a void to fill too I've only ever seen the movies and have no idea where to start with the series. I'm also kinda nervous that I won't like them as much as Discovery :/
I recommend this. It's a chronological timeline of the entire Star Trek series excluding Discovery (for now, anyway). So, if you're into watching things chronologically, it's an awesome bet. Other timelines get you relatively close going ENT, TOS, TNG, DS9, then VOY, but this timeline adjusts for the heavily interspersed nature of DS9 with the end of TNG and the beginning of VOY. It's a pretty big undertaking, though. There are like 726 Star Trek episodes (including the animated series) and ten movies, so you're looking at about 600 hours of content. Of course, out of 726, there will probably be a few dozen episodes you don't like (and some episodes are just bad). Some skip lists have you skipping over half of TOS, about 1/3 of TNG, 1/3 of VOY, <1/2 of ENT, and half of DS9. So, you'll end up skipping ~3/8 of the show if you follow the Skippable guides. That's much more manageable if you want to finish the show in a reasonable amount of time. If you just want to watch Star Trek into eternity (or until they make more new stuff), feel free to watch it all. Direct link to the timeline
As a kid I read all of the books from the original series. There were some really good storylines...i would love to see a timeline that included that
Thanks for this! We actually ended up starting with TNG (someone is a Patrick Steward fan ) but I think after we finish that I'll go and watch the rest chronologically.
That probably wouldn't be super difficult. The Star Trek X (where X is a number from 1-12) novels are just episode adaptations. The fotonovels are also just adaptations. The Ballantine books (Star Trek Logs) are adaptations of the animated series. The Wanderer Books are from Star Trek II. The Pocket Book novels, starting with the novelization of the first movie, have their timeframe broken down here, although I don't know what the stardates are for the individual episodes. The hardest ones would be the Star Trek Adventures books. The title for the grouping is more or less unofficial, but it includes books like Spock Must Die! and Vulcan! I don't know of a published timeline that includes these, but many of the books wouldn't be too hard to fit into one, I can't imagine. Then we go on to the rest of the show. Pretty much every book based on a branch of the TV show has a timeframe listed on the Wikipedia page. There are some newer original series, as well. New Frontier is its own continuity. Star Gazer would be an interesting prequel to TNG (it covers Picard's life before he took command of the Enterprise-D). Titan is a spinoff of TNG. Vanguard is a spinoff of TOS. Seekers is the sequel series to Vanguard. New Earth is also a spinoff of TOS. Destiny is some crossover madness. And there are a ton more mini-series style releases that tend to fit in somewhere. There is a ton of Star Trek content out there. To absorb it all, ST would need to be your main/only entertainment for multiple years (or a lifetime of exploring the series )
I just binge watched all 12 episodes of the anime (kiss him, not me!) I generally dislike harem tropes. Nothing against them it's just that the MC is always bland and it ends up so forced how they all like this piece of white bread. Here however they had fun with it. The MC is an a highschool girl who's an Otaku that LOVES BL. She lives for it! Fangirling over anime and manga male shipping is what she eats and breaths. Oh and she's chubby. The tale begins by her favorite anime character.... dying! This sends her into such a fangirl state of depression that she refuses to eat or leave her bed for a full week. going from this to this Yes like the Grinch her eyes grew five sizes that day. Now that she's pretty guys start to notice her (four of them) and try to win her over. The hook? On the inside she is still that otaku fan girl that's shy when it comes to human interactions.... also she'd rather see the boys kiss each other then focus on her. She tries to hid it in the first episode but her geekiness shows in the end and since she's cute (and there is competition) the guys accept it. It's hilarious with this being her usual face whenever a BL accident occurs around her The show picks up a gentle lady for her about midway. This actually puts pressure on the guys because not only it the woman rich, famous and popular among the girls. SHE'S ALSO A FANGIRL! boylove FOREVER!!! worse still she's a manga illustrator and writer. One of the leads favorites under a penname. The show is shallow and nobody learns anything, The whole point is to laugh at the common troupes and how the lead sub verses them screaming for some limited edition item or oglying the guys together. A prince should be with a princess? Who puts downs those rules? A prince... should be with another prince! and the princess will watch satisfied from the sidelines, it's where I belong (drools) It's funny and light hearted without being mean spirited or dumbing things down. It also manages to make the lead likeable from beginning to end which is nearly impossible in harem (or reverse harem) anime that depend on the character's so called hotness.
I've never been able to get into The Expanse, don't know why. Even my brother who's a bigger sci-fi freak than I am didn't finish the first season. Probably just our tastes (we usually prefer our shows a bit more light-hearted, think Justified or The Newsroom). I've heard the books are great so I might try them at some stage. Tell you what: I'd MUCH rather watch The Expanse than Lost in Space. I'm too old to watch crap that revolves around kids, stupid people making stupid decisions, drama for no reason and one cool robot. Things I AM enjoying and looking forward to: Anime: Megalo Box is fantastic! First time in a while I'm really excited about a new anime series. Plus, it has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a while. Also, of course, Food Wars Season 3. I don't know how they do it but each season is just as brilliant as the previous. And, I finally got caught up on Overlord Season 2. I still love it and when it's good it's great, but the pacing felt a bit off for me, especially in the first half of the season. Still a solid 8/10 from me, though, and I'm looking forward to the next season. TV series: I've got the whole new season of Bosch to look forward to. I'm saving it for a rainy, overcast, wintry day (because yes, I live in the Southern hemisphere). Bosch is wonderful but it needs to be savoured not rushed through, imo. Westworld just started and the big decision is: Watch and wait for each episode, or wait and watch a whole bunch of them at once? Into the Badlands started its new season and I can't wait to see what happens now that Lewis Tan has joined the cast. He was excellent in Iron Fist as the Drunken Master. What else? Oh, Masterchef Australia is starting soon as well as the new season of Brockmire, which hopefully will be as hilarious as the first season.
On second thought, I've downgraded Overlord Season 2 to a 7/10. Will explain why in the Anime section. Still rate the first season as 9/10 and looking forward to the 3rd.
