    This reminds me of an ancient game for the Apple // computers from back in the day of BBS modeming. It was called Robot Wars, I think, and it had a programming language for the operation of virtual robots. People would write programs for controlling their robots, upload them to the BBS and for a match, the Sysop would take the programs and run them in arena combats.
