This floating 'utopia' will have its own government and cryptocurrency by 2022 – to beat rising sea levels THE WORLD'S first floating city will boast its own government and cryptocurrency when it lays roots in the South Pacific in 2022, claim its backers. Building work on this isolated "utopia" will begin next year following the signing of an agreement with French Polynesia's government in 2017.
It's neat, but depends on what kind of safety measures they have against hurricanes and tidal waves. It seems like something like that would end up underwater if they were hit by a hard enough storm.
Nope, too experimental for my tastes. I'm from Dubai and we have tried that actually. Created our own artificial semi-island where everything is grand. It's called the palm. The sales pitch :- A Utopia where everyone is your Neighbor, All the modern conveniences at your finger tips and the sun is always shining. Reality :- The houses are more like dog kennels that architects have deemed fit for a human or two to occupy. This isn't the 50's, Your neighbor is renting the place up until his work contract expires... Just like you I should say. So no, He doesn't know or care about you and wouldn't be able to ID your body if his life depended on it! Of course all the modern conveniences are at your fingertips, You have a net connection don't you? The Sun is shining everywhere. It's a desert climate. in fact this year it only rained twice and that was back in December. Forget discussing the weather, the answer is always HOT! Welcome to the palms, everything is tiny and over-priced even by Dubai's standards!!! Oh and those green things you see... that's the promo image, there is a reason we mostly grow palm trees over here.
Nope. Due to being a fellow of African qualities, one of my racial attributes is that I can't swim. So I'll be steering well away from experimental aquatic utopias. At least until I eventually get some damn augmentation.
anytime someone says their building a utopia you should steer clear regardless of whether its in the water or on land.
I am just imagining one of the disaster scenarios. Something bad goes down so you get on your boat to leave (look at all the docks, there's a lot of boats.) Unfortunately, someone has sunk a large ship in the only channel. You're trapped.
