Hi all. I'm a long time gamer of the table top, PC, and iOS variety who is also an author. My first book was urban fantasy, and my newly released second is a LitRPG. I'm finding the genre a blast both to read and write in.
Feel free to list your book here... --> 2018 LitRPG Books - New Releases Also, you can put your website/books in your signature file. See below this post.
Urban fantasy? Hell yeah! If/when the universe aligns and I finish my current story, I was considering an urban fantasy LitRPG. Oh, and welcome!
I can urban fantasy all day and night long. From middle school until my mid 20s I was all about the Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling and Wraith.
As for UF LitRPG.... Book One: Straight up high fantasy, Book Two: The characters will be going into an underworld where the souls of non-respawning dead from two different worlds end up. It's the same game, but in the game but you can travel between two different worlds + the underworld via portals/dimensional rips Book Three or Four: The party will finally make their way to the other half of the game which is characterized as "Magical Post Apocalyptic," where sometime in the 60's all of the world's dormant magic exploded, and set humanity on a different developmental path. You'll see modernish buildings, tech replaced by magic, and creature types that feel very UF like weres, vampires, and fae in modern(ish) clothes, etc.
I tabletop roleplayed in Shadowrun and D20 Modern Urban Arcana. My favorite creation was the "M500 Persuader of the Chaos Dragon". When triggered, it fires a randomly selected cone, line, burst of energy. For UF LitRPG, there is something to be said for a multi-genre computer game. I'm hesitant to say "like the Oasis in Ready Player One" because that was set in an almost dystopian light. That and we don't need were-hipsters saying that one is only copying RPO now that it's "mainstream". ...note to self: Stat out were-hipsters
Plot twist... They are normal dogs, wolves, rats and hamsters that turn into humans with styled beards, and an insatiable thirsts for Starbucks. Capitol City: Portland, OR
I was largely a World of Darkness purist, though later on I branched into Forgotten Realms, Big Eyes Small Mouth, Exalted, and GURPS. BESM and GURPs were kinda cool because you could mix and max genres as you wanted. One thing I liked about old school Vampire: Redemption was that it was one game that allowed you to run campaigns in both medieval and modern settings. I can't think of many other MMOs that blend settings/genres. I guess WoW does this slightly since it's mostly high fantasy, but engineering opens the doors to Steampunk, guns, motorcycles etc. There's also cities and towns that break down the pure high fantasy world (Gadgetzan, Gnomergon, Area 52, etc.). Summoners War has both Sci-Fi and Fantasy skins, but that's not quite the same. In any case, It's nice to meet you. Always nice to make new friends in the community.
My only time in WoD was a one shot Werewolf LARP. I loved the lore but some of the players were a little unsettling. Then again, I can say that for a LOT of games/systems I'm happy to meet you, too. I hope I don't come off as too much of a dork. UF has been my jam for a long time. The Dresden Files, The Mercy Thompson series, Iron Druid. I may have a disease, but I seek no cure.
We've gamified LitRPG! Haha. ETA: Some of the items change your appearance while others unlock sub-forums - ie buy the torch to get into the Deep, Dark Cave...
Hey, I love the WoD. I LARPed it for years, but I have no problem admitting that it attracts a lot of the 'freaks,' and more eccentric citizens of Nerdom. You won't find many dudes wearing black lipstick and assless chaps at a high fantasy larp and yet... Yeah... Vampire game. No undies. We White Wolfers tend to favor the edgier sides of life. It comes with the setting. I mean... "Angst" is a primary stat in one genre. lol
I was just browsing the shops. I noticed a lot of authors have them. I guess they make items that follow the themes in their books?
Yup. We can do the same for you. Some of the authors (myself and @Conor Kostick for now) have sub-forums. So, readers can buy an item (usually from our books) to get into the sub-forum. If you're interested, we can set it up for you.
Might be a bit premature now, but once I have some reviews and develop a following I'd be glad to do something like this.
Cool deal. Just let me know, and we'll get it done. Linking to the forum in your book is NOT REQUIRED, but it's appreciated if you do.
