Just use magic fire on stones, then cook, or heat metal then use that metal on meat. maybe even oven like cooking.
dig a hole throw a bunch of stones in heat to red heat with magic fire then cover up the hole = oven. 4h later => meal.

I kinda feel like cooking is slacking off in the MV a bit.. they should at least have the standard practice of cooking food and putting it into like jarred glass containers.

When properly sealed, they can last 5-1o years on the shelf.

Some of those are quite delicious. I especially like fish in tomato sauce stored in tin cans. That stuff taskes great and it can last for decades inside of those cans before it gets stale.

But the real genius move would be to fill some of the caves with compost and dirt to start mushroom farming. As long as there is nourishment, humidity and darkness mushrooms can thrive. Winter, summer, underground or surface, doesn't matter. Mushrooms get their energy from breaking down dead things, not the sun.

In the real world they thrive on manure and straw. The villagers have plenty of manure.

 

Sounds like the core building would be perfect for that. Just keep expanding that underground space.

Its like cooking on coals.. or super hot air that is generated from coals being hot.
f.e. using blow torch to "crispen" the steaks as long as you don't use the blue fire its kinda fine. but if ur careful you dont even need to use the yellow flame too..

 

Just needs a collapsible box oven to take around with him. Place food inside, close door, flame spell to evenly heat the whole box and wait.

 

He does have a storage bag (most of the time)...
