If you haven't been keeping up with Reddit, some records have been made recently. So Battlefront II is upon us, and it's an $80 game. That's fine. But if you want any extra characters, you'd better pay. For example: want Darth Vader? Then you have to pay $89. More than the game itself for one single character. Needless to say, this hasn't gone over very well. In fact, it's gone over so poorly that EA's Reddit account no holds the lowest score in the history of the site. It's -670,000 and falling fast. Meh. Impotent Useless Raging. It's a trademark of Reddit. EA sets a price. If people buy, then the price was right. Most of the whiners on Reddit will also quietly and unannounced buy the damn thing.
Whining and complaining is also how consumers raise awareness over such things, things which some consumers would keep taking with their heads down if they didn't think anyone else cared.
Looks like they're dropping the prices with credits to unlock Vader, Luke, and a bunch of others. https://www.ea.com/games/starwars/battlefront/battlefront-2/news/swbfii-changes-launch
Anyone remember the Jericho peanut campaign? Heh. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/FunMoney/story?id=3214156
Welp. This is going over well. Belgium's Justice Minister calls for loot box ban in Europe Belgium denounces loot boxes as gambling Hawaii Wants To Fight The "Predatory Behavior" Of Loot Boxes Star Wars Battlefront II game faces further backlash - BBC News "This game is a Star Wars-themed online casino designed to lure kids into spending money" I toldja. EA went too far.
Remember when app-games with in-game purchases first came out? And kids were banging away and racking up bills? LOL I think Amazon/Apple got sued and had to pay out. I mean, customers vote with their wallets. In this case, it's not like ACCIDENTAL racking up of charges.
And you know, how perfect that it was EA that did it. EA, the Nickelback of video game companies. It really could have been anyone, like Ubisoft or Capcom or, hell, even Bethesda... but nope, it's EA. If EA suffers big enough losses from the backlash of Battlefront 2, and it all started because some guy couldn't unlock Vader, this will be the second time Anakin brought balance to something.
Disney has stepped in and had them strip microtransactions for now. Power to the people, right? Can't tarnish the biggest brand in the history of Sci-fi now, can we?
I heard it was originally like $1600 to unlock everything? Were some things just pay-locked or could you grind for them? (Entropia Sweating! lol)
Which is why I wished that companies went back to the old days of full-blown expansion packs that were worth the money. I know they were almost as much as the main game, but that's because they were worth it. I really don't play video games like that because of DLC's and companies abusing them. Hopefully, my idea for GameLit books follow the old traditional ways we grew up with.
As a complete surprise, I received the game (and a PS4 Pro) yesterday as an early Christmas gift. It's... eh. Graphics are nice, and the gameplay's pretty decent. But since I got the super special edition, it felt kind of hollow to play.
I played battlefront with the friend's account, and it is kind of funny. But it will be cool if they fail - Anakin will bring balance
