While listening to the earlier books I noticed some fair foreshadows that were revealed in books later in the series. Have you noticed some that have come true, or feel like they should. Example1: Foreshadow: “Code Breaking?” Richter asked incredulously. Just who was Randolphus? Answer: The Wetworks son of the old king Example2: Foreshadow: "Richter had no idea how to make another hilt like that, and if he did, it had been made out of demon bones. Those weren’t exactly lying around for the taking." Answer: The demon bones of the Mauler will be lying around for the taking
"You have found: Spoiled Rabbit Meat Durability: 2/5 Food Class: Common Quality: Spoiled Weight: 0.3 kg Traits: This can be used as bait for carrion feeders. You will most likely become sick if you eat this. Richter dropped it in disgust. He wasn’t that hungry yet." Bk 2 Richtær becomes very sick from eating bad meat because he is sooo Hangry, in book 8.
"He could rationalize that using the soul stones could save the people that were still living here in the village. After all, it wasn’t like he could bring back the people that were killed in the Dark experiments that had made the aberration. What was done was done, right?" Bk4 What was done is not done. He will do something that will effectively bring back the people.
"The soul stones alone were worth hundreds of gold, though! One of them was even rare! The prompt didn’t say what type of monster each soul had come from, but for his purposes, it didn’t really matter." Bk4 Bk8 he gains the ability to see what type monster each soul had come from, and it will matter. "SOUL FLAVOR No longer will a soul only be judged by its rank. The specifics of a captured soul may now be used to augment enchantments and add extra abilities and powers to enchanted items. Cost: 58 Talent Points" bk8 "You have Purchased: SOUL FLAVOR No longer will a soul be judged only by its rank. There is a chance that when you use a captured soul, it will bring with it a characteristic of the monster it was captured from. The specific characteristics of captured souls you use in your enchanting may now be used to augment enchantments and add extra abilities and powers to enchanted items. *No further upgrades for this Talent" bk8
That talent should really have had an option to upgrade to see or choose what characteristics the soul would offer or simply to choose NOT to add "flavor".
"You have found: Map Fragment. Durability: 7/23. Item Class: Artifact. Quality: Superb. Weight: 0.1 kg. There was nothing else on the prompt. The fragment was about the size of a piece of printing paper but with ragged edges. It was written on skin that was light red. The letters were inked in a red that was so dark it was almost black. It showed a series of mountains and what he thought was a desert. There was also a large forest or maybe a jungle on the other side of the mountains. Words were written across the top of the fragment, but to Richter’s surprise, he couldn’t read them. None of that mattered, though." Bk4 I think this has to do with the demon cataclysm: "What is known, however, is that Cataclysms have shook this world time and again. Horrible events have scoured the entire surface of life, have made whole nations sink into seas, have opened gateways that allowed demons to hold sway over continents for millennia. Each time, however, The Land would overcome these injuries and, in time, heal. This world was personally created by the Universe itself, and it was made to be resilient and powerful.”"bk7
"That bitch Sonirae was an Assassin. When I analyzed her, I saw that being an Assassin was a Specialization of the Rogue Profession. How does one become a Specialist? Do you know anything about it?” Randolphus look at him with an inscrutable expression. Richter looked back at him slightly confused, but then the chamberlain’s face smoothed, and he started speaking as if nothing had happened, so Richter wondered if he had imagined it." Bk4 This foreshadows to: "Name: Ran’dolphinius Race: Half-Human/Half-Undine Profession: Rogue Level: 47 Specialty: Spy Focus: Counterintelligence" Bk7
Cant find the quote, i think its in book 7. Richter hints at a theory that each of the 4 quests to unlock ley lines would lead him to a magic core. If the litch quest was a total derailment of the normal progression (due to Richters gradient) then there could be 2 more cores out there(which makes a 3 core library a possibility). If the litch was slated to be the last of the 4 quests and Richter just took him on before he was "ready", then there might be only one core left.
HM will tell Richter that she dueled a previous master of the mist and won. That is how the MV went from an empire with spires to a cave. "He saw the village, his village, with towering spires, and then saw it brought to ruin," "There are a few other ways to earn Settlement Points. You have already come across one of the most profitable, and most rare: taking a Heart Crystal from another Master by force."
I doubt an empire would fall due to losing a core (edit: pop). They might fall on hard times for a while, but if the mist really stretched for hundreds of miles in all directions, they had other pops. Maybe not ones with four leylines, but pops would be out there. Sidenote: How likely is it that four leyline pops are the highest version and are normally political centers dominating a region and controlling the lesser pops? The one in Yves seems to be doing just that. Might explain Richter extensive claim on the underground.
Okay so the PoP poll in the disagreement sub-forum is back up. Had some technical difficulties, recast your votes!
“And more than that. If his lordship was na going to make a Magic Forge, he would na waste a Magic Core on what is basically just a fancy way to make wine.” The dwarf started muttering to himself, “Probably could na even make a decent ale with that cauldron thing, so what good is all yer potions and magicky elixirs?” Richtær ends up make adding a Distillery on the Core Buildings. It makes terrible mountain dew, white lightning, etc.
“Good! Just try not to invite an entire dwarf clan to join us this time,” Richter said wryly." Bk4 I whole dwarf clan will join the MV.
Gully dwarves always struck me as too dumb to live. Basically half dwarves, half gnomes, but with none of the advantages and all the bad traits. One of the few cases where prohibiting racial intermarriage would be sensible.
“It be a damn burrower rat. Sorry, milord, but this thing should na be here. Ye usually only see them deep underground, but for some reason they are up here on the surface.” "Richtær kept walking, somewhat lost in thought. Why was he getting all of these quests? It was possible that something had happened that he didn’t know about and the village was responding somehow." Bk4 Something has indeed happened he doesn't know about, not just being an absentee land lord. The eaters and others stuff underground?
Sorry I think that one is a bit of a stretch. During the Messeji "He also felt a faint itching across his shoulder blades but it subsided in a moment." Richter might be getting wings.
"Richtær didn’t want to plant the Focus Crystal near the room that had the rune. He had no idea about the growth pattern that the garden would take, and if it grew near the rune the results might be unpredictable. Planting it here should buy him some time." Bk4 Spoiler: Rune Welcome, Master of the Mist Village. You have accessed the Rune of Dark Holding. It serves to keep any being of Dark magic within the confines of the spell. Do you wish to deactivate the runic magic? Three months of growth and using the soul stone of the krypt mistress, had the krystal grow instantly into the room with the rune. The result will not be predictable.
