The tentacles would be amputated. Understandably.
Also the aberration is bound with Runes. It can't escape.
Furthermore chain it. TAME it, Charm it. Use Chaos magic to control it, potions... contemplate and apply man, you are one of best here. Pretty certain you would find a few hundred ways...
Make a deal with food as offering, it gets food when it writes a book.

Now my dear Johan just imagine how much data would the aberration tell to Futen, when he would ask the questions of which we would never think of!?
What magics could the aberration teach us?! spells that it could scribe, skills, treasure locations, other notable places of power..
Likely the info would not be super valuable per say, if Aberration was always locked in the cave.. But its victims of their knowledge is juicy.. and in general its not a good practice to waste resources.

If an old Master is one of the personalities then he could give info about the region or development details like how a central building allows you to specialize, and what other options are. Where other ruins are and so much more. Scribing down all the knowledge for the Library would be perfect, let alone blueprints, templates, and schematics.

The thing was capable of morphing new arms into existence. Besides you are ascribing logical thought to a man who barely avoided starring in a tentacle, vore, porn movie. I'd have killed the thing too, no way it gets a chance however small to turn things around.

Charm is effective at level 8 and below. Even with various boosts, the abomination was well beyond that level range.

Not to mention that with all the different Personalities I doubt that Charm would work well (if at all) even without factoring its Level and Resistances. The same issue with Commune with the Dead.

Richter Charmed a level 19 Undead Professional Warrior in the Crypt misters Tomb. I have verified this before. Book 2 or 3.
When he was weakened and damaged.

Now being much stronger he can surely charm, a tortured to death dark aberration.

We should grab a beer sometime Dragon, sometime after the bio-weapons pandemic..

    Book 2: "
    *Alma! Brain Drain!*

As fractious as the psi dragonling could be, Richter would never question her loyalty. As quick as an arrow, her hastened body shot towards the draugh that held him. She latched onto the undead’s desiccated head. The draugh released its grip on Richter and immediately reached towards the dragonling’s small body to crush it to jelly. Richter saw it move and he became laser focused on one fact. This thing would not hurt Alma!

Focusing his will on that personal truth he shouted the incantation for Charm invoking the spell. The draugh’s hand froze only an inch from Alma, as the spell struggled to override its will. It worked! The draugh relaxed its hand.

    "

"Draugh Elite Guard. Level 18. Health 740. Magic 0. Stamina 390. Draugh are warriors who willingly consign a portion of their souls to be bound to their bodies after death. All personality and individuality are gone, but what remains is a fierce determination to protect the place of their rest. For this reason, draugh are normally placed to protect the burial chambers of their former masters. Beware the fierce strength of the undead."
    Their lvl's ranged from 18-20.

    "
Charm! You can convince an enemy that they are your friend. In battle, they will fight for you. Casting this upon a creature lowers they regard for you after the spell wears off. This is a spell of Life Magic. Cost 60 mana. Duration: 1 hour. Range: 20 feet. Cast Time: 1 second. Cooldown: 10 minutes."
Where is lvl 8 here anywhere? probably it could be their resistances and their lvl vs ur charizma & spell lvl as Johan states bellow?

So actually it seems that abberation was beaten up, when Alma used Brain drain.. thus reducing resistance's..
And with the weaken resistance to spells we can charm anyone.
Braindrain + Weaken with spirit magic + beat up => repeat.
We can have Hisako double cast it. It will easily charm creature lvl 88.

Shit if we get at least a few people to learn spirit magic, how did Richto actually learn it?!
We could get anyone mental resistances to -26% -36% or -200%
love this system so much its great.

The Level of Effect on creatures with the Charm Spell depends not just the Creatures basic Level but also it's mental state, wether it's weakened and so more susceptible and any Resistance to or Weaknesses to Life Magic (and mind attacks?).
Also the Level, Skill and Strength of the Caster in Life Magic and Enchantment type Spells also strongly effect the Level of creatures that can be Charmed. The strength and focus of will when Casting the Spell probably helps as well.

    And casters Charisma.

As long as it is small and trapped, I say keep it. If it can grew new limbs that can be cut off, all the better. The thing was still alive and talking while hacked into pieces, so it should be okay in a much more ..."restrained" state.

I'm underestimating the emotional stress Richter was under at that time.. I do not believe many of us could have done better
It would have been very hard to think rationally then..
