Since you already know how many chapters there are, I'm going to assume you've outlined the book? Is that right?
Yes. I start with a broad strokes outline then create a more detailed scene outline for each chapter. I'm using a 28 chapter version right now - 25% (7) - 50% (14) - 25% (7) - with the various "beats" at the appropriate places. Chapter length on this one is varying between 1500 to 4000+ but most are around 3k, I'd say. I tend to change the chapter length in the middle to keep it moving quickly and avoid sagging - and also to affect other things in the story. HTH!
A 28 chapter version? Are there different versions? Are you talking about some type of story architecture? If so, what's it called? I'd like to see the different versions that are available. What's "HTH"?
HTH = hope that helps Yeah, over the years, I've borrowed and adapted various "beats" from a lot of the beat sheets that abound... http://jamigold.com/for-writers/worksheets-for-writers/ I've got several for romance and now several for LitRPG. The first was a beast at 48 chapters tho only 110k words, so shorter chapters. Book two I played around a bit and ended up with 28 "beats" or chapters. Book three I'm sticking with 28 with a single POV this time. While the main series will be long, I'll be grouping trilogies within the series. So, these first 3 books are the 25% (act one) of the overall 12 book series. The next three (4,5,6) will be based around a single character with similar covers - part of Act 2, the middle 50%, and so on. I'm trying to make sure no matter what level you look at the books (series or individual books), I've got similar structure going on. Maybe I'll share a basic one for LitRPG at some point.
Please do share your basic beat sheet for LitRPG. I think that would be interesting. I've been meaning to ask you, do you write romance as well? You've made various comments on posts that lead me to believe you're working in the genre in some way. Is Eden Redd you're pen name? I'd also be interested in seeing your outline for at least 1 chapter. I try outlining a chapter and get about 250 to maybe 400 words of what's going to happen. I find that this nets me around 2k words for the finished chapter. So, I'm wondering exactly how elaborate your outline is for 4k chapters.
