I haven't contributed much to the DeviantART litRPG group (actually, I don't think I've contributed anything at all) since I'm not a big DeviantART user to begin with. However, I have kept my eye on the group ever so often and found some good references:
The name I have this saved under is "hybrid" and I don't even want to imagine what it's supposed to be.
Castelluccio, Italy There was actually a scene in Ghosts of Smoke directly inspired by this image. If you're one of the few who read it, you can find that scene just by running a word search for "splotches". Because that's what I see here— splotches of sunlight on colorful farmland. Just looking at this makes me dream of a VR world much like it, one which I can freely explore.
A stadium shrouded by fog looks like an evil UFO lair Of course, with enough imagination, it is an evil UFO lair. That's actually why I've been trying to go with "photo-authentic" images and resources rather than art whenever I can help it. Having to use your imagination to envision something can definitely help spur a lot of creativity, and the closer real life seems to get to art, the more our imaginations seem to be tickled. We're actually much more inspired by real life fortresses and castles of evil than even the best artwork of them.
Case in point... The Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral, constructed out of black lava stone. If you saw this in an RPG, it would likely house either a force of wickedness or a clandestine brotherhood of darkness. Perfect headquarters for a shadowy guild!
