I wish i could like this comment again. Going through the audiobook now. It capped him at the initiate level of points even though he reached apprentice rank during the battle.

Edit: nvm. Dont drink and post. I was thinking about the war points not dp's. Dp's were bull too though.

It actually capped him at the apprentice level, there's just a typo where it says initiate there. He was capped at initiate level after the blood stone battle and it was lower than the cap he received in book 8

Oh nice i didnt double check that, still didnt seem like that many points though for an apprentice. The war badges are expensive.

They are, but it makes sense to halt the massive power surge battles such as these would cause. One all out engagement like we've seen twice now and the winner would have a supremely powerful initiate war leader with all the badges maxed out.
Though I do agree the caps seem a tad low, but that's just because we see just how devastating the drop in point totals are after Richter causes some sort of devastation. With 2500 though he can upgrade all his locked badges now that he's an apprentice (all three skilled positions, and lead by example) and still have 1000 to play around with, such as finally investing in melee attack, definitely grabbing sphere of influence, and so on.

Bonus fun fact, it doesn't look like Richter spent his war points after the engagement with Nien, which means he should be rocking 3612 total war points to beef up his party potential.

It diden't seem that unreasonable to me, considering how many people an apprentice war leader can actually control and be expected to face down. In most apprentice level engagements they would get to keep all points.

what i find odd is that Richter isn't gaining warpoints as an "army of one".

True, even though he has a 90% penalty (gaining only 10%) he should still see them trickling in, especially on the tier two wurms.
