Could be. We're getting awfully close.

With Kevin Hart and the Rock, I think they'll knock it out of the park.

Then again, it's been a lackluster summer for movies, I've read.

Anything we can do as a community to tie the movie together with Gamelit -> LitRPG ??

Anyone know The Rock? Would he do an interview with us? Heh.

It has the Rock and Jack Black in it so I have to see it. It's going to be silly and ridiculous and too much fun, I can tell already.

Saw it last week (turns out it was two weeks back, time flies!) and I actually have a review up on IMDB

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2283362/reviews?ref_=tt_urv

    (I'm hjalsayegh)

I thought it was actually good. My expectations were at ground level because of the trailer... also video game movies have the worst rep ever!!!

    Summery:-

First 15-20 minutes drag like you'd expect them to.

Characters start of as the classic stereotypes (the Jock and nerd that are friends. The smart shy girl and blonde bimbo that hate eachother... and 90's kid, didn't think that was a stereotype all on it's own but there you go)

    Characters start off paper thin.

    THEN THE GAME STARTS

And it was worth the wait, I buy that those actors are avatars. The teens don't change to suddenly become cool but they reach an understanding each with his or her own arch that actually fits.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Jack Black is actually funny in this one.

As for the game, it's your typical 90's retro game mechanics so pretty straight forward with the focus being the character's arches.

It was a fun movie and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy better than I expected.

Was it the best LitRPG movie? Probably not, but it had things to like about it.

I loved the way they showed the players vs characters aspect - ie Jack Black acting like a teen girl, the Rock acting socially awkward, etc.

I'm not sure why they added all the penis references - to give it an edge, maybe?

Overall, 4 stars out of 5 in my book.

I watched it a while ago and it actually was pretty fun. I didn't go in expecting a masterpiece, but I found it pretty funny and charming. It gave me the best of what I expected and had some unexpectedly good character development for a video game movie.

I'd say 4-4.5 out of 5 stars for me as well. It was totally worth watching and the actors did a surprisingly awesome job!
