Fun fact that roman legionaries have used slings with led bullets, every soldier had slings..
In general bows vs slings are similar, but learning slings takes a lot more time for the person to master.

In current scenario, I'd steal ideas from "ten realms" 1 book , village under siege chapter: arm the ranger citizens with crossbows(easier and simpler than bows, anyone can learn and use easily with minimum training).

In the real world crossbow are what everyone went to for the untrained. The short composite bow dominated the world with the the Great Khans Calvary. The English later Dominated with long bows due to their great range. The long bowmen of England trained for years to become so deadly. The French handed out crossbows and they were killing knights that afternoon.

Killing a few knights. Most of the time they failed to penetrate armor, though they succeeded often enough to be dangerous weapons. Major drawback is the slow firing speed.

Kindir are illsuited for bows due to their small size. A crossbow on the other hand would suit them very well, but kindir like to wander a lot. Crossbows need maintenance and it would be somewhat difficult for a kindir to buy ammunition even in the places that tolerate their existence.

A wrist shot on the other hand can just as easily be used to fire rocks at trees and animals, as it can bullets at enemies and threats. The preferred weapon of the kender was the Hoopak (5e Equipment) - D&D Wiki, partially because it was much easier for them to gather ammunition while they were on the move. It also doubled as a wander staff and spear.

Another factor is that slings are just more fun. Kindir are children at heart, when they get bored they will start firing rocks at things just to see whether they can hit or not. Its a good way to train.

There is another use of the sling that people tend to forget. Its not limited to throwing solid objects, on the contrary nearly any suitably sized object can be thrown much further than they can by hand. One example from our history would be grenades. In the land might explosive potions take their place?

Finally Ancient Slingshot Was as Deadly as a .44 Magnum

Still seems to me that it would be easier to have the pixies drop things from above. Richter could make a small pouch of holding to reduce weight and Pixies fly above and drops foxfire. Wash, rinse, repeat. They are so small and have such high agility they would be very hard to target in the air. Imagine if the sprites could make them cloaks of concealment.

You get an A+ for the Pixie mist cloak idea. That cloak effect made into tights might work better. Cloaks just seem like they would be combersome while flying. Maybe just a bit too much drag.

    Thread title.

    Mass produced Mana Poisons.

Mana drain gives an unfathomable headache?
Find the cheapest poison to consistently drain 100-150 mana and equip it to everyone in the army. Alternately a mana drain enchantment.

Why not just use health or stamina poisons? They don't inhibit the enemy any more than them being tired or hurt, which they are very accustomed to if they're in the army. A level ten nobody in the army though? Very low chance they have an intelligence above 15. Super effective way to cause them to be useless in combat. They likely have put more of their points into constitution and endurance as well, reducing regular poison effectiveness. Wisdom is likely as low as their intelligence too. Gonna be pretty hard to fight with a mana headache you've never experienced before.

Do you think it could be made into a gas? A gas with a very long poison duration.

I am aware that weaponized gas wasn’t really that effective in WWI due to limitations.

Some of those limitations can be removed from this equation.

    1. Nobody has gas mask.
    2. Magic can be used to blow the gas in the direction it needs to go.
    3. Magical gas will dissipate faster and will not linger or contaminate surfaces.

    Shout!

I think you have a winner.

The first place headache potion/gas winner goes to Shout!

Guess who can drop those gas poisons form the sky?
Pixies and Alma.. drop fly drop repeat..

But MV really needs a greater scry spell to see all "undesirables" in MV area and to find dudes like HeMan..

That's the kind of thing you have a Master for. If Richter strengthens his bond with the domain enough he should get a sense of whether there are outsiders on his lands.

Magic could blow it in either direction and we have no idea whether the MV has stronger magic than the BA.

No this one I think should be open to the current Richter as well, he just needs to strengthen his bond with the domain. The mist lord evolution would have made it easier, but with enough mist root tea and hours of meditation he will get there.

Well done, Reread it again and now understand what I have read!
Italic font will expand upon the ideas mostly stealing great thoughts from ten realms! Thx to @darkenedstar

    1. Best Idea ever, everyone who can and can't hold a weapon has to be trained! Most deadliest and powerful nations in the world were those where every citizen was a warrior.
And even a old man can shoot a crossbow from a short distance, especially from a rooftop.

    Army composition:
    1. Everyone is a warrior
      1. I would split the Army into two sections: ranged/Crossbowman units - easy to train, little time needed(say 10 people squads). Second part would be heavy infantry: Spears, shields, swords(maybe crossbows/slings too). These are the guys who won't retreat and stay fighting until death on the wall/ city streets etc..
      2. Specialized medic unit 10-20 medics running around healing dudes/ maybe as a part of some squads too, but hey are mostly the second best fighters we have like almost the strongest.
      3. MVP squad with Richter & his Amigos(~10 dudes, best of the best).. to deal with Majour problems that the enemy will throw at them. F.E. 7 rhinos to brake the wall. or War Golumn.. Blood mage etc...
    2. Command structure, communication using talismans, other items, redirecting troops, support, dealing with unexpected problems like rogues behind the lines etc..
      1. Yes have generals, captains/ sergeants/ privates.. chain of command
    3. Fortifications:
      1. Big wall
      2. Stakes in the ground
      3. holes in the ground so that the attacking force would brake their ankles while running to the wall..
      4. towers for scouting
      5. possibility to shoot from building rooftops
      6. traps, in front of the wall
      7. Traps behind the wall(could be massive ditches filled with spikes..) thus funneling the attacking force into narrow tunnels against out heavy infantry with spears
      8. bombs buried under the wall for when the wall will be lost
Heavy infantry should be trained by grueling exercises until broken, then rebuild back together as one unit one fighting force. We have a 3 lvl healing house, so yeah brake, then heal.
Berserk enchantments on heavy infantry Armour.. to increase Str and Stamina after each kill BLOODLUST!
After basic instructions and training, these troops should be taken into the dungeon with trainers(high lvl guys) to fight vs boars or whatever based on level...
When basic competency will be reached use multiple squads to fight a bunch of beasts drawn form the forest as training.. "big battle training"
F.e. 2 heavy infantry squads and 3 crossbowmen squads vs say 30 boars or 25 wolfs.. and one reserve squad for example vs flanking attacks
Would be nice id we will have time to get some knife/sword fighting for the ranged units, otherwise a few rogues and we will be losing archers like flies..

    2. Adding to this point try recruiting new "tribes" on the dawn of battle to get great bonuses like 20pt's to luck for one week lol Just imagine getting 20 points to strength.. good luck trying to take the walls then
Also we need to start making 4th tier sling weapons asap for the kindr..

    3. +

    4. We need clear priorities what can should will be done, in time before the war. no need to start building a woodcutters camp if it will not be finished before the sedge..
Id say we must harvest all the food now and prepare to endure a siege of at least 4 months. Gathering food will take like 3-4 days.

Marketplace, super needed especially if we will have ~900 dudes mining the dungeon every day.. multiple shifts.. we need to sell a ton of stuff and buy stuff.
    Labyrinth store?

    9. Sepulcher--- Beyan should try to unlock at least one lvl of Death power.. after obtaining a hearth crystal.

    11. I'd send randy to assassinate the enemy commanders/mages.. or make a failed attempt to enrage the commander into a premature attack, same as with the Goblin blood stone battle.
Maybe send a few guys to :
    • Steal gold/coins/money
    • Steal/poison food
    • destroy horses, transportation equipment etc..
    • assassinate commanders/annoy them.. mutiny will happen without money/food etc.. or at least this will drop morale to shit
I feel like we have a nice coverage of defensive/growth strategy.. the offensive part is lacking I think..
I'd love to send invisible futen to scout.. if shit goes down he just teleport's.. also can be sued offensively for light flash/ sound bomb.

    Now Cptn Phase two awaits!

When Richter had unlocked his first power life.. I think he was not too strong

guess we'll have to follow beyans exploits to see if he finds a heart crystal in the sepulcher. Or maybe we can get it so that the death ley line nudges over and connects to the MV nexus.
