Hi, My name is David Pedersen and I've been writing fantasy books for 8 years. (That sounded like I'm at an AA meeting... Hi, I'm addicted to fantasy, let me tell you a story.) I'm just about done with my 1st series of fantasy books, and was set on what I'm going to write next... until I found litRPG. I've been playing mmorpgs since Ultima Online, and WoW since vanilla, and I really enjoy writing fantasy - so I'm hoping it's a good fit. Right now, I'm scouring web sites, stalking posts here, and reading litRPG books. I loved Ready Player One, and am enjoying Survival Quest: The Way of the Shaman. Awaken Online and Viridian Gate Online are next on my list. I'm wide open to advice and suggestions. Otherwise, I'll continue lurking.
Hello! Welcome to the forum! I'm pretty new to LitRPG, myself, but have been devouring books over the course of the last couple months. I'm also a big fan of fantasy, too, so I might have to check yours out. I assume this is you? EDIT: AH! And it appears you weren't too far from me just a couple days ago. I'm down in Wichita, KS, currently, so a little southwest of where you were in Topeka.
Thanks for saying hi, and for checking me out. That is me I had a booth at Topcon last weekend - I always love a good con. Out of curiousity, what are you reading now? I need to add to my list.
Welcome Got_Angst, I'm new to it all as well. I'm the same. I love fantasy and am writing my own. I found LitRPG, only read a few books and love them, but instead of starting something new I need to go back and rework a story so I'm putting LitRPG on hold until this is done! xD
Welcome aboard. Good to have you here. I added you to the author group, so new forums should open up for ya. Let me know if you have any questions, and enjoy your stay!
Good to have you. I've got a similar story, but only one fantasy book written. I'm real close to getting my first LitRPG out. Just need to find the time to finish the editing and then formatting!
Nice to meet you! Fellow new-to-LitRPG author here. (Aren’t we all...) I look forward to reading your work!
Thank you! Unfortunately my artist doesn't have a web site, but I'm always happy to brag on him. His name is Alessandro Brunelli. He creates some amazing work based on my drunken stick figure ideas.
I'm working through the third book in the Ascend Online series. I liked the first one, despite some of its grammatical issues, but skipped the second (because it deals with a different character and a separate story). The jury is still out on the third one. Thing is, most LitRPG and GameLit is still in the stage where it's, at best, a medium level of self-publishing. That means there isn't a lot out there that's really polished. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but the stories are, in a lot of cases, raw. Still, there are some gems out there, even ones that don't have the benefit of professional editing.
That's the feeling I got when I read through Eden's Gate. I liked the story and the world that the author was building, but the it felt very amateurish. I would guess it was the first series the author, don't remember his name, had written. I don't want to harp too hard on that though, God knows my short story will make Eden's Gate look like a masterpiece as I've never written anything outside of university essays. At the end of the day Eden's Gate managed to get 4 of my Audible credits so it's doing something right.
