So as someone who spends most of his times working on cover art for various series it dawned on me to go hunting up some of the others who share the same wheel house. I was very shocked to find that nearly none of the cover artists are named in blogs or even linked too anywhere and I had to really dig to find anything, on top of this the trouble with Tumbler has made it increasingly more difficult to find these people since that was a place where they could share their art. So if you do covers or know where the cover artist like to hang out throw them some love in here. It would be nice to see what the others have done and are doing. -as a side note i’m also thinking of closing down my SFW Tumbler and switching fully over to Twitter and Artstation. Since the covers keep getting repeatedly hit with “Possible Copyright infringement” stopping people from viewing them, its stupid i’m the cover artist XD you think they would have figured that out after the first round of markings. I have also noticed that the cover artists do not get the credit in the books. I am not sure what leads the writers not to mention their cover artist. I have several personal friends who illustrate books and some stories they tell are scary.
Just a bit, ive spoken to two or three who don't want to known which is fair enough but ive also spoken to one or two who were upset that they didn't even get a link in the blog when covers were shared. Thankfully DJ makes sure to credit everyone.
The cover artists for my books are always given credit. And when I do cover reveals or discuss the covers on my blog or FB or wherever, I link to their page.
I have been my own artist to this point. Too bad I’m not very good at it. You can see multiple versions of the same titles in my collection. Guess that makes it easy not to offend...
I don't know if authors realize how important it is to a freelance artist to get credit. We need all the help we can get! Also I always link to the author's book when I post my art, that's a couple thousand more eyes on it, so it's a you scratch my back situation.
Pretty much, many of the authors simply don't even realise they aren't doing it. It also makes it hard to track whos doing what and seeing what ppl are working on (hence the thread)
