It's been asked time and time again about how one might be able to merge litRPG and real life. Social credit is a fine way to do so. Social credit + augmented reality is suitable for making an RL-set gamelit story so long as you think things through. You can use a social credit score in much the same way as EXP, complete with various levels. Accomplishing certain tasks will improve your social credit score. However, this comes with limitations. For one, social credit is two-way— certain actions can cause you to lose social credit points, leveling you down. This is not typical in RPGs. If you use social credit as a morality system, you can avoid this problem, but this brings with it a new set of issues. Adding more color to proceedings is the concept of competing social credit scores— for example, having a high social credit score for China's government may require a lower social credit score for Apple. In which case, you can even treat social credit like you would affinities and classes. This is undeveloped at the moment, but I feel it is a good area to consider for the future.
I swear, minus the conventional leveling, affinities and classes that I've read a story that use "social credit" or something so similar that it's just screaming at me. I just can't remember the name of it. There are also apps that can "help" you 'gamify' your life. I say "help" because they all require self setup and such but stilla novel idea.
Why set it in China when we're getting our own version? Also: Pyramids: Homeless Brain Eyes of the Pyramid
No. This one involves two school age girls. I vaguely remember them being worried about 'the friend' not having enough social credits. The MC is trying to help her get them. Thats how it starts anyway.
When you put it that way, the plot does sound really, really familiar. I can't place the book, though. This is going to drive me crazy!
