Nice anime, I do agree a donkey is an invakuable asset. Now we do not have cannons. We do not have guns& cannons. Still river could be dug out by say 20 mist workers or one per worm.. And a water channel made in front of the wall. maybe even a second one in front of the farms or in side the walls. Besides watter channel and donkeys what else can be used? I was thinking of those ramparts. They'd prevent a mage from firing directly at the walls from short/ mid range - no line of sight - and most spells are short ranged.
It depends from spells, f.e. fireball is more of an area spell. Still I'd also like to have our walls be made with three parts: Wood:Stone&Earth:Wood. So even if the first Wood part of the wall burns the Remaining wall still stands. But there is merit to star shape, more archers could be shooting during enemies approach into their range of firing position. Because we have the high ground
There is a video on shadiversity about whitening wooden walls with something that basically closes off the oxygen supply and prevents the wood from lighting on fire easily. It looks pretty good and you can't just light in on fire.
