No harem is almost as big a plus as no cut out villains. So tired of seeing only shallow adolescent male fantasies coming out is this genre. For all my problems with ritcher’s or jason’s (he who fights with monsters) character. They more than the teenage fantasy wish fulfillment this genre has mostly devolved into. If only just at times
I like the harem genre when its done right. Take wheel of time, where the whole thing makes Rand's life so much more complicated and hilarious. Its an interesting dynamic that's fitting for a genre where a handful of amoral, evil people gather power for the sole purpose of having it. I can do without it being pure wish fullfillment though and especially massive harem's that would make most Sultanic harems look sensible. But i'm also aware its a turnoff for some people because its so abused.
Chapter 22 - A Return to Old Ways - Trickster Cleric (A LitRPG Isekai Epic Fantasy Story) More traditional fantasy and litrpg mix.
I can give a bunch of recommendations from RoyalRoad if anyone is interested. Probably better in a different thread, though.
Please do! Ive been getting more into it after liking he who fights with monsters and infinite realm. Gotta love that constant iv drip of litrpg and cultivation content.
Alright! Here are some I’m currently following: Mistrunner | Royal Road Siege State | Royal Road HEX - A Zombie Survival LITRPG | Royal Road Soul of the Warrior | Royal Road Soul Warrior - A Futuristic Sci-Fi LitRPG Series | Royal Road Free Lances | Royal Road Dungeon's Path | Royal Road Cyber Dreams & Electric Angels [LitRPG & Progression Cyberpunk] | Royal Road Deadman (A Post-Apoc Litrpg) | Royal Road Tunnel Rat | Royal Road Feel free to ask about any of ‘em. I think they’re all very good.
Also, Defiance of the Fall and Mother of Learning. They aren't LitRPG but both good. DotF is super long and MoL is just awesome.
Yup. But the first lacks the initial chapters because the books are on KU. Same for some other recommendations I could give, like system change.
Problem is most authors have no idea how to do a harem properly if it has to be done at all. Almost all harem stories today are just wish fulfillment stories for the author. Least how I see it.
Try out the Dungeon Walker series. Sure, it has wish fulfillment, but at least it’s not a super mega OP main character.
So true. I often wonder if its worth sorting through it all and make a register of good to garbage. And yes, garbage, there are a lot of books out there that are just plain bad. Amazon and a lot of other sellers don't really seem to care to bother with a good system for people to find new books and I just can't be bothered to sort through it all. I really like chinese novels, when they are good. Problem is 99% is mass produced garbage, reusing the same badly written villains and the same moronic justifications over and over and over. I'm tired of being told character A is a massive Alpha and here is the excuse he tells himself to justify murdering people randomly or based off a 5 second observation from which they can magically tell what is going on.
It doesn’t help that hardly anyone has experience with a harem IRL and that they’re exponentially more difficult than a regular, normal relationship.
Agreed, way to much work in my opinion. If anyone really thinks about it after having been in a few relationships. Do you really want to deal with 2 or more? Take up swinging it’s less stressful. Though I here it is outstanding for children.
Harems? I don't think so. Maybe I could swing two, assuming they are bisexual and into each other as well I could see a group relationship being very good for the kids though. Modern people have moved far away from the group dynamics that humans lived in for most of our existence as a species. Also having multiple wives was common in many cultures. Males are fodder for big animals to crush during hunting, war fodder, exploration fodder, fighting over women fodder.... males have a higher likelihood of dying young even when you account for the risks of child birth. Modern world is the weird one, we have advanced.
I don’t know if anyone is in the spaces where they’d hear (like his Facebook page or the discord) but I checked his patreon and there have been no new posts for almost a year. Not a good sign.
