Yeah, there has to be some sort of tension and release cycle in a book, otherwise it just isn't satisfying at all to read.
My rating scale: 1: Utter trash, shouldn't have been made public 2: Hated the story because of obvious political bias of author bleeding through to the point that it looks like there was an ulterior motive to publishing the book 3: Didn't like the story for whatever reason, craft or not. 4: Liked the story, will continue to read series or author. 5: Throwing my underwear at the author. GIVE ME MORE!!! Don't make me come find you!
well in fayroll specifically the world building is good with a plot driven story, it made me think of a reversed Way of a Shaman actually. I've read book one though. it might have changed after that. I tend to lean toward character driven tales personally.
I mean I did like some ideas from Fayroll. It was just missing some sort of challenge to it. It seemed like everything went off without a hitch for him.
Stupid people. I really hate it when characters in books act stupid and/or ridiculously selfish, especially when it's repetitive. Like this: Awesome McAwesomesauce the Premier Protagonist (AMPP): hey guys, X is going to happen! Stupid ignorant selfish idiots (SISI): nah. X will never happen! AMPP: hey guys, I *know* X is happening because I saw it myself! SISI: we don't believe you, now go away because we are your betters. X happens and completely wrecks the SISIs shit SISI: OMG AMPP HALP! X HAPPENED AND WRECKED OUR SHIT! AMPP helps because he or she is The Good Guy SISI: thanks AMPP now gitfo. AMPP gitfos, as requested Later... AMPP: hey guys, Y is gonna happen SISI: nah, Y will never happen! Rinse and repeat with every conflict in each book in a series. I mean really, even the densest mfr would eventually learn that AMPP is probably not only absolutely trustworthy (because AMPP), but also probably completely in the right. A corollary to this rule is the protagonist who doesn't want to scare people or interrupt a special occasion that s/he knows is going to get wrecked purely Because Reasons. Or when an author is putting in a contrived love triangle that relies on otherwise mature, skilled, intelligent AMPPs acting like blithering idiots because there can hardly be any story nowadays where there isn't a fking love triangle Because Reasons.
Wow. After posting my thoughts on two books, someone gave me a drive-by one-star saying the same thing about my book. Heh.
Right? Le sigh. In better news, the edit on Goblin is going well. Having book two and three written and a clearer picture of books 9 through 12, I can make book one even better. Wish I had endless time. Heh. This side project I've dusted off has me going in a few new / fun directions too. Natural Language Processing. Yum!
wow, that's actually petty.... Or it could be a coincidence? different strokes for different folks and all. *gives you a hug*
No, I'm going to tell you what I keep telling my three year old niece when her uncles attack her with tickle fights and doll snatching. ATTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK
